If you have had a problem with service with your credit card provider, you should first contact them to see if you can get the matter resolved.

In this day and age, people feel quite defeated and don’t complain as often as they should. They may feel that help will not be available even if they do lodge a complaint. Your credit card provider, however, can’t lose too many customers due to bad service and it is in their best interests to keep you satisfied and happy.

Knowing this puts you in a more powerful position. You do have the upper hand because they need customers in order to survive. If you’re dissatisfied with any of their services, you are likely to tell your friends and relatives about it and this will reflect badly on the company. They cannot afford to lose customers by getting a bad reputation through word-of-mouth contact, and you can use this to your advantage.

When you call up your credit card provider you should talk to the customer representative in a firm yet positive manner. Just talk as if you already know that this matter is going to be resolved and you have full trust in them getting it handled.

You should never talk to a representative with disrespect, no matter how angry you feel. Raising your voice and using foul language won’t get you anywhere. If you feel frustrated during the conversation you can ask to talk to someone in a more senior position that may have the answers you need or more authority to make decisions.

Remember that your credit card provider wants to keep you as a customer. If they feel that you are asking for something unreasonable they should point you towards the terms and conditions of your contract and explain why they can’t help you with the situation.
