The Citibank BP Card is a credit card designed to save you on fuel and that’s about it. The Citibank BP Card has a mid-range interest rate and no rewards, purchase protection or any other perks to speak of. Plus, it comes with a medium-level annual fee as well. However, if you drive a lot (and get your petrol at BP), this card is worth having in your wallet.
Pros of the Citibank BP Card
- 5% cash back on any purchases from BP
- 0.5% cash back on all other purchases
- 55 days interest free for purchases
- 0% p.a. for 6 months balance transfer rate.
Cons of the Citibank BP Card
- 20.89% p.a. interest rate
- $89 annual fee
- No rewards programs
So, how can you tell if the Citibank BP Card belongs in your wallet? Simple do you spend more than $1,600 at BP every year? If not, then don’t bother. The main perk of this card is the 5% cash back on your BP purchases and unless you are spending at least $133 a month on fuel, then your cash back won’t outweigh your $89 annual and you won’t accrue any other rewards. The 5% cash back only applies to the first $600 you spend each month while the 0.5% cash back applies to the first $5,000 you spend each month. That translates to your cash back payments being capped at $360 for BP purchases each year and $300 for all other purchases each year.
As a balance transfer card, the Citibank BP Card isn’t terrible you get 0% p.a. for 6 months. After that, if you haven’t paid it off, it reverts to 20.89% p.a..
Bottom-line: Get this card to save on gas but you might not want it to be the only card in your wallet. Consider sharing this card amongst several family members or using it as a company card for traveling employees. That $660 in savings each year (minus the $89 annual fee) may end up being more valuable than the other rewards points you won’t be racking up with the Citibank BP Card.
