The Citibank Clear Platinum Card has a fairly low interest rate for normal purchases, great complimentary perks and a pretty reasonable annual fee. Interestingly, the Citibank Clear Platinum Card offers an improvement over the Citibank Clear Card, but in the form of a lower interest rate for purchases. But for the marginally higher annual fee, you get a few extra perks that the Citibank Clear doesn’t offer namely the opportunity to earn rewards and complimentary travel insurance. All in all, The Citibank Clear Platinum Card is a nice step up from the Citibank Clear Card.
The best thing about the Citibank Clear Platinum Card is the low purchase interest rate. This makes the Clear Platinum not a bad card to have for carrying balances from month to month. You get 55 interest free days starting from the date of purchase as well, though you will still have to make your minimum monthly payments. Note that for cash advances, there is no interest free period and the interest rate is considerably higher.
Regarding the asterisk above, there are currently two offers on the table for new Citibank Clear Platinum Card members half off on your annual fee for the first year with 0% interest for retail purchases for the first 3 months and on balance transfers or you can choose to get 0% interest on both balance transfers and retail purchases for the first 6 months and pay full price for the annual fee. These offers, as such promotions often are, are for a limited time and may change or disappear altogether without notice, so be sure to read carefully before applying.
The travel insurance is a great perk with the Clear Platinum Card and can easily pay for the annual fee in the case your trip is canceled or otherwise disrupted. Also available are purchase protection and extended warranty, which will cover any of your retail purchases if they are lost or stolen.
Bottom-line: This card has a competitive interest rate, a mid-range annual fee and some higher end perks and features that make it an attractive card to use every day. Pick it up if you want to consolidate your credit cards and enjoy 0% interest for a few months or you are simply looking to get great rewards and have a bit of security when it comes to purchasing flights and other items.
