The iPad is the newest wave of computer innovation that brings with it the need for iPad apps. When it was first introduced there were already games, lifestyle, and news apps available. However, some of the banks had to take a little bit more time to develop apps specific to the iPad. While the iPad looks like a big iPhone and operates much the same way the two pieces of technology are quite different so they needed to have different apps built. Here in Australia, our banks seem to be some of the last to take on new technologies, but news is they are caching the tablet wave too.

Obviously, the increased use of mobile banking is one of the main reasons banks are jumping in to get their iPad apps complete. However, there is also the case for improved customer satisfaction if they develop their iPad app quickly. Customer satisfaction, as we all know, can make or break almost any business. St.George has announced that its iPad app will be released as soon as next week, with other banks following suit. These steps should do a lot to improve customers ability to access their accounts and their overall happiness with their bank.

St.George iPad App

Location service - You will be able to find the closest bank branch and ATM based on your GPS location or by typing in your postcode.

Customer service – A simple touch of the screen can get you to the numbers for lost or stolen cards, branch hours, and other general information.

Online banking - All of the online banking services you are used to getting on your Mac or PC will be available on the iPad app.

Rates - The iPad app will contain current rates for transaction accounts, savings accounts, lending rates, and foreign exchanges.

Choosing services – You will be able to scroll through and choose options for credit cards, home loans, and savings or transaction accounts.

Other services - Also included in the St.George app are banking videos, product and service information, and banking support services.

Now that St.George has opened the door to banking iPad apps you can expect most other banks to also develop them. NAB is expected to have an app soon and other banks like ANZ and Commonwealth have made adjustments to their websites so they meet iPad viewing requirements. Like the cell phone, it will not be long before everyone has a tablet device and every business has an app.
