About QSCU

A small Qantas Airways employee group in 1959 decided they would fare better by putting their funds together, saving and lending to one another … what is commonly known as a financial co-op or credit union.

This was the beginning of the Qantas Staff Credit Union (QSCU) which today boasts 80,000 co-op members and offers an impressive array of financial products and services. The goal remains the same, regardless of how large the member base grows. QSCU is focused on providing security, financial services, and satisfactions to its members.

QSCU is a mutual organisation, which means the co-op is owned and controlled by the members, also referred to as shareholders or owners. All shareholders/members over 18 years of age are able to vote and play a valuable role in the future direction of the credit union. Unless you own stock in a bank, and the majority of us don’t, the credit union is a way to benefit from shareholder ownership without having to invest large sums of money; you get power and benefits, but at a minimal cost to you.

QSCU Products and Services

The Lifestyle Plus Credit Card from Qantas is a great card to carry, but it is not the only product offered at Qantas Staff Credit Union. Here are other services provided:

  • home mortgage loans
  • personal loans
  • insurance
  • savings accounts
  • telephone and online banking
  • and much more

Joining the Qantas Staff Credit Union

There are four ways to apply for QSCU membership:

  • easy online application
  • visit a conveniently located Member Service Centre
  • mail your application
  • request a QSCU Membership Pack

Online is the most popular method and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. You will need either a current passport or a drivers license (SA, VIC, QLD). Application online requires the applicant to be 18 years of age or older due to the identification checks involved.

To qualify for membership, the following criteria are required:

  • you must be a current or former employee of eligible organisations
  • you must be immediate family of employees of eligible organisations
  • you must be a sponsored friend of a current credit union member

Immediate family means partner, spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, or niece. Applicants must also be residents of Australia to qualify for membership and to borrow money from the co-op.

Eligible organisations include:

  • members of the Qantas Group of companies
  • Qantas Airways
  • other airlines
  • airport terminal staff
  • government agencies
  • travel agents

Other organisations may be considered but all requests must go before the Qantas Credit Union Board. Staying true to its original creation, Qantas is one of the credit unions that wants to offer benefits and features to Qantas Airline and industry related individuals.
