When you are first applying for a card, you will probably be drawn in by a special promotion or a credit card rewards scheme and have no idea about the other credit card perks that are on your card. Even if you were aware of them when you first signed up, odds are that you may have forgotten some of them, and may be missing the boat.

Credit Card Perks

Here are some of the most common credit card perks available on many credit cards. You can find out if your card has these by checking out the terms and conditions on your contract.

Extended warranties on products

Some credit cards offer an extended warranty for 12 months after the product has been purchased. This means that you will not have to buy an extended warranty from the manufacturer if you are already covered. This warranty is added to the manufacturer’s standard warranty you receive when you make the product purchase.

Free insurance for international travel

Before purchasing any travel insurance you should first check and see what you are covered for with your card. Quite often this is one of the credit card perks you will have on your credit card, and there is no use buying travel insurance if you are already protected. You will have to use your card to book your flight and/or holiday package for this insurance to be valid, but if you are collecting rewards points anyway, why wouldn’t you use your card?

Complementary purchase cover

This is one of the many credit card perks that you may not know exists on your card. You may have insurance on the purchases you have made using your card that covers vandalism, loss and theft. You can check your credit card’s terms and conditions to find out if you are entitled to financial compensation, replacements or free repairs.

These are just a few of the different credit card perks you may already have on your card. If you’re not sure what you have, it would be a good idea to take another look at the fine print on your paperwork to find out. You may be pleasantly surprised.
