Credit Card Rewards
Many people want something for using their credit card and because of this, credit card companies have begun to use rewards programs to entice credit card holders. You may be wondering what are credit card rewards?
Every time you use your credit card to make a purchase on a card that offers card rewards you will be awarded a certain amount of points. Normally, for each dollar you spend, you will receive one or two points to be redeemed for certain rewards. Once you have accumulated a certain amount of points, you will be able to redeem them for something. What you can redeem your points on will depend on the credit card you are using. Here are a few things that are commonly redeemable for points:
- Airfare and travel
- Donations to charity
- Electronics
- Experiences such as wine tasting, skydiving, concert tickets, etc.
- Gift cards to your favourite retailer
These are a just a few of the card rewards your credit card may offer. There are so many rewards programs available, it is important to research the right credit card rewards program for you and which one will best fit your needs.
For some people, credit cards with rewards programs are not at all useful. If you rarely use your credit card and do not spend much money on it each year, you will never earn enough points to make having the card worth it. Credit cards with rewards programs normally have annual fees, if you are not able to redeem any rewards for your spending, paying the annual fee would not be necessary.
The same goes for people who maintain a balance on their credit card. For those, if you are not paying off your credit card, spending will be cut as you will not have much of an available balance. Also, the interest you are paying on the credit card will outweigh any rewards you may get. For those that do not carry a balance and use their card frequently, having a credit card with a rewards program may be right for you. Make sure you research and compare all the different cards so you are getting the right credit card for you. If you do not travel often, signing up for a credit card with a rewards program associated with travel will not be for you. But, if you do travel frequently, look into a credit card with airfare or travel rewards. Whichever you choose, know that there are many options for credit cards with rewards programs.
